More than 10 years ago YuLi Chai et al. (Oncogene. 1999; 18: 263-268) reported the existence of an interaction between the cellular tumor antigen p53 and the breast cancer type 1 susceptibility protein BRCA1, showing the involvement of the "central" region of p53 (a.a. 99-307) and the 2nd BRCT domain of BRCA1 (a.a. 1760-1863). With our method, we were able to predict correctly the interacting domains of p53 and BRCA1, finding with greater precision the regions involved in the interaction: a.a. 173-185 of p53 (UniProt P04637) and 1742-1757, 1773-1781 of BRCA1 (UniProt P38398). |
